At 6 p.m. on the night of Tuesday 11th January 2000, the Liverpool Coastguards received a distress call from the radio beacon of the "Solway Harvester". Fourteen hours later, the searchers gave up hope of finding anyone alive after two empty life-rafts were found. The ship was later found in 38 metres of water and had apparently sunk in heavy seas off Douglas, Isle of Man. All seven crew are missing, presumed drowned.
The "Solway Harvester" crew was (left to right) : Craig Mills, Robin Mills, David Mills, John Murphy, Martin Milligan, David Lyons and Wesley Jolly.
The "Solway Harvester" was a member of the Scallop Dredging Association, which has opened the Solway Harvester Appeal Fund on behalf of the families of the crew. Five were young single men just starting their careers, but two were married men with families. Your assistance will be greatly appreciated.
