...A Range of Attractions...

Moffat itself is in the Southern Uplands, an hour from Edinburgh and Glasgow. Its history in the wool trade and as a Victorian spa town are sources of much of its charm. The hills to the north and east were once the haunt of the Border Reivers. Golfers, bird watchers, walkers and cyclists, will all find something worth a visit.

Moffat has an excellent range of cafes, giftshops, and grocery shops, many in sight of the Moffat Ram in the High Street square.

There are other attractions in or near Moffat. The Beechgrove Sports Barn near the Moffat Academy offers a variety of indoor sports and a fitness gym, with tennis courts nearby. Horseriding and pony trekking are available at the Lone Pine Stables, two miles away in Beattock. The nearest swimming pools are in Dumfries. The town has a good 18-hole golf course, a park with a boating lake, a putting green, water play feature and swings for children. There are two other parks in Moffat, one of which is near Well Road Centre and may be used for football matches.

These and other attractions are described in the Dalbeattie Domain Attractions of South West Scotland website.

From the A74 take the turning for Moffat and enter the High Street (town square). Turning to the right around the shops on the south side of the square, follow Holm Street south and east to the T-junction with Burnside just before the bridge. Turn left into Burnside, following it up and to the right into Well Road. Continue on up Well Road to just past the junction with Sidmount Avenue until you see the sign for Well Road Centre to your left. If you come as far as Ballplay Road, then you will have slightly overshot the turning for the Centre.
