Into the Future :

The M74 now passes a mile west of Moffat, bearing people and freight north and south to the Glasgow and Edinburgh areas and cities in England and Europe. Visitors still come for themselves as a break from the thunder of motorway traffic, whilst others use the variety of local guesthouses and use Moffat as a touring base for visiting Dumfries and Galloway and the Borders. It is hard to predict the exact future of the town, but no doubt it will continue to give its usual warm welcome to visitors.

One feature that is bringing the town right up to date, is that many computer-based businesses have been attracted both by the beauty of the surroundings and by good communications. There are two publishing houses and a stationery firm in Moffat, a very unusual worm sales business, an extensive fish farm and several mail-order clothing businesses. In that respect, Moffat continues to market to passers-by, but in the Internet era this includes the world.
