King's Arms, 1815.
Nicknamed the Head Inn,
renamed Annandale Arms
in the 1850s.

A Tradition of Quality...

True Scottish hospitality can be enjoyed at this welcoming, 200-year-old Coaching Inn which offers attractive accommodation and excellent value for money. The Annandale Arms - in 1815 the famous "King's Arms" Inn - stands in the centre of the pretty Southern Uplands Hills town of Moffat, where Robert Burns, Sir Walter Scott and John Buchan found inspiration for many of their works. The innkeepers then held a reputation for high-quality lodgings and food, adding to their attraction during the later 1800s when Moffat was a popular spa. This tradition is being upheld by the Tweedie family. Visitors continue to enjoy the beauty of Annandale and Moffatdale, coming to fish and sail on local rivers and lochs, or to golf, walk and ride in the surrounding hills.

Arms of the Earl of
Annandale & Hartfell.

...Modernised and Enhanced...

Margaret and Simon Tweedie took over the hotel in 1996 and have already transformed their eighteenth century coaching inn into a house of warmth, comfort and welcome. The public rooms, bars, restaurant and the bedrooms on the first and second floors have been completely refurbished to a very high standard. The panelled lounge bar has many coats of arms of the powerful Borders families, notably that of the Earl of Annandale and Hartfell who has permitted his arms to be used in connection with the hotel. The bar has an excellent selection of malt whiskies and is well-liked by knowledgeable locals.

The Dining Room of
The Annandale Arms

...With Excellent Food...

The dining room is well appointed and the menu changes daily, offering a service that is held locally in high regard. Even the bar meals are of a high quality and are in demand.

You will be offered a truly warm welcome by the staff of the Annandale Arms Hotel. The chef proprietor takes a deep interest in all things culinary. The mouth-watering house speciality is an Aberdeen Angus steak, char-grilled to your specification with a creamy garlic mushroom dressing topped with a cheese melt. Our vegetarian parcels are equally unusual with an excellent blend of sweet peppers, seasonal vegetables and mild spices. Where possible the best of fresh local produce is used to give a mixture of the traditional with a touch of the exotic.
