Welcome to the Lochinvar Hotel :The Hotel was built about 250 years ago as a coaching inn on the way from the Castle Douglas area up to Ayr, but has been extended and renovated over the years. However, it is most romantically ivy-clad, the contrast with its stone walls an attraction to tourists. The name of the Hotel refers to the poem of ''Young Lochinvar'', said to be the William de Gordon of Kenmure who is buried in Glenluce Abbey. The ruins of Kenmure Castle are near New Galloway, barely five miles to the south west of the hotel. A Good Base for Touring, Fishing and Birdwatching :The Lochinvar Hotel is located in the heart of the Galloway Forest Park, with views of the Dee Valley and the forested Galloway Hills. With Ayr and Dumfries from 30 to 40 miles away on fairly fast roads, the Lochinvar Hotel makes an excellent base for those intending to tour the hundreds of attractions in Galloway and Ayrshire. There is a good upland Golf Course across the valley at New Galloway. Dalry itself is less than forty miles south of Ayr and Royal Troon, an equivalent distance from the magnificent coastal links such as Southerness and Portpatrick. For more information, see Golf Links in Dumfries and Galloway. Events and Functions :
