Damhead Boarding Kennels and Cattery :

A Micro Enterprise Growth Assistance Programme - Business Information Technology Enhancement and Skills Training Programme project.

Fred Dale and his wife Anne started the Damhead Boarding Kennels and Cattery in 1997. Based at Tynwald on the outskirts of Dumfries, the boarding kennels are situated in a modern building conversion, designed with the emphasis on creating a stress-free environment.

Their business has primarily been marketed by "word of mouth". To keep on par with competitors who are training young people wishing to join the animal care industry, the business needed to ensure it was up to date with knowledge and accreditation. After approaching Groundbase with a training project that consisted of Small Animal Care Certificate training, delivered by Barony College, Groundbase were able to offer assistance towards the training costs through the Skills Training Programme.

Damhead Boarding Kennels and Cattery are now officially certificated by the Barony College as a satellite premises for student work experience in Small Animal Care training.

To further support the business in its marketing approach, computer equipment was required. Groundbase were able to assist this side of the business under the MEGABITE programme. Fred Dale is now able to produce his own leaflets and other stationery and has almost completed his own web site page.

"Groundbase were very helpful, not only with the financial support but also in providing the right direction of support for business advice." - Fred Dale.
