Transnational Developments :
1998 - 1999

Strong links have been forged with Viborg county in Denmark. A 26-strong delegation representing their LEADER II Group spent five days in Dumfries and Galloway Region in August 1998. They discussed European Funding with members of Dumfries & Galloway Council, Dumfries & Galloway Enterprise, the European Partnership and Groundbase.

In August 1998, Groundbase Programme Executive Graham Platt, Craft Development Officer Clare Phillips and Marketing Student Ruth Winter, visited the Group d'Action Local Pour le Dévelopment du Centre Ouest Bretagne (GALCOB) LEADER II Group based in Rostrenen, Brittany.

These transnational contacts are already yielding benefits to the Region. The experiences of Ruth Winter lead in 1999 to the Brittany 2000 project for an outlet in Pont Avens for this Region's craftworkers. An entirely new contact at Fanano in Italy at the Craft Fair has reinforced the marketing and cultural exchange possibilities of the Transnational Development Programme.
