A Tourist Catering Support Programme project

The Plumed Horse Restaurant is a new business venture for partners Tony Borthwick (Master Chef) and Charles Kirkbride (Front of house Manager). Located in a rural setting at Crossmichael, they were fortunate in finding Jim McLelland, Landlord of the Thistle Inn, whose next door stable block was ripe for conversion.

Jim converted the building to a high standard, giving Tony and Charles carte blanche to design the interior to their own specification and leased the property to them as an independent concern.

The Plumed Horse is quality throughout, from the gastronomical delights of the food itself to the white linen table covers. The restaurant can accommodate thirty people on its two floors.

A grant of £ 8,000 from Groundbase enabled Tony and Charles to install high quality kitchen equipment and allow the upstairs dining area tobe fully furnished and equipped ready for opening.

N.B : The Plumed Horse is already considered a success by local residents who have recommended its cuisine to the writer of this page.

See The Plumed Horse Website for more information, menu, winelist and updates, on this famous restaurant.
