La Dolce Vita Italian Pizzeria, Kirkcudbright :

The picturesque coastal town of Kirkcudbright in South West Scotland has so far been more renowned for its associations with the arts than for its restaurants.

Angelo Bertolacci spent years working for others before finally deciding to set up on his own, and took over La Dolce Vita Italian Pizzeria in the town during February 1997. At that time, seating capacity was limited to 40, and the kitchen was in desperate need of upgrading.

With £ 6,600 support from Groundbase under the Tourism Catering Support Programme, Angelo was able to refit the kitchen and carry out internal structural alterations to increase capacity to 50 covers. The work was completed in time for the Christmas 1997 party bookings, and he is now ready to tempt hungry tourists during the 1998 season his mouthwatering menus.
