1995 - 1999

Groundbase is part of the LEADER II European Community Initiative to aid business growth, community development and the rural economy across the whole of Dumfries and Galloway. It is a partnership between the European Union, Dumfries and Galloway Council, and Dumfries and Galloway Enterprise, and runs until the year 2000.

Since the launch of Groundbase in September 1995, over 1250 different projects have been supported. Groundbase has committed in excess of £ 3.2 million Sterling, which together with other public sector and private monies has allowed new investments and projects totalling over £ 11.6 million Sterling to take place in the local economy.

Whilst projects such as MEGA and VAEP are assignable to Business and to Tourism, others such as STP, CEP and WRSI cross some divisions.

Impact within the Rural Economy :

To the end of September 1998, 275 projects had been monitored. The results (shown below) highlight the considerable number of jobs which have been created.
