Lightning Protection Services was founded in 1992 by Andy Ritchie under the guidance of his father and namesake Andrew Ritchie (now semi-retired) and is based in Kirkpatrick Fleming. The company specialises in the design, installation, inspection and maintenance of all aspects of Lightning Protection. To compliment these services, they also offer a steeplejack and industrial rope access service, completing contracts as far north as Orkney and the Hebrides and as far south as Devon and Cornwall. The contracts include schools, colleges, churches, castles, flats, offices and even a Roman fort. With the increase in the use of mobile phones, an installation service is also offered to clients such as Cellnet, Vodafone, Orange and Mercury.
Due to the specialism offered, the company has grown steadily and now employs a team of highly trained and skilled operatives who carry a particular pride in their field of work. As with most businesses, the administrative functions can be quite demanding and this area was absorbing much of Andy's time.
After reading a feature in the local press, Andy approached Groundbase for more information on their METEP scheme, which supports the placing of unemployed persons into employment by assisting with the employment cost for a period of time. Andy now employs Office Administrator Christine Hill.
