Godfrey Smith makes clogs at his workshop and shop at Balmaclellan. This highly-unusual but traditional footwear is sold alongside more conventional ranges of shoes.
He approached Groundbase in 1998 for funds to improve the access road and car parking facilities to this visitor attraction and to obtain a new computer system for footwear design and administration.
"It is very hard for a business in an isolated location to obtain expansion capital that is needed to move on. The grant made it possible to increase turnover. The benefits from Groundbase to the infrastructure in this area are very important." - Godfrey Smith.
