About Jim Sturgeon ...

Jim Sturgeon was born in 1932 in Dalbeattie, encouraged to paintduring childhood by John Maxwell RSA. He was further encouraged by Donald Bain after exhibiting in the Glasgow Civic Arts Exhibitions in the 1950s, thereafter becoming firm friends. He was invited by the artist J.D. Fergusson to exhibit in the p;remises of the Celtic School of Ballet run by Fergusson's muse Meg Morris. Jim has travelled and exhibited in Europe as well as working and living in Canada, where he studied The Group of Seven artists in Toronto.

Coming to Woodside Gallery ...

Take the A 711 from Dumfries to Dalbeattie, once there turn down the High Street (beside the Pheasant Hotel) and go down the High Street to the third road on the left (Union Street) just before the garage. Go up Union Street and turn right at the second junction onto William Street. Woodside Gallery is almost at the end of the cul-de-sac on the right hand side. Park in the yard.
