Craig of Balmaghie Farm :

A peaceful and relaxing holiday with good food awaits you at our family run 430-acre upland farm where we rear beef cattle and sheep. We offer a warm welcome and comfortable homely accommodation. We are located in the centre of an unspoilt countryside that offers panoramic views, forested hills, clear lochs and magnificent coastal scenery.

Accommodation :

There are three bedrooms, all heated, with alarm clocks and tea/coffee making facilities. The beds all have electric blankets and continental quilts, although blankets are also available. There is a double-bed room, a second double or twin room, and a third double or twin with en-suite bathroom. The en-suite bathroom has an electric shower over the bath, a wash-hand basin and shaver point, and a toilet. Each of the other rooms has a wash-hand basin and shaver point, and a separate toilet is near these rooms.

Guests have a private sitting room with colour TV, magazines, games, maps, farm and tourist information. The separate dining room seats six. A payphone is available, and a hair dryer and iron can be supplied on request. There is ample car parking at the front of the house.

All rooms are fitted with smoke alarms. Please follow the NO SMOKING rule in the bedrooms and dining room.

Local Attractions :

Craig of Balmaghie Farm is conveniently sited for those wishing to visit Galloway Forest Park, The Machars, Kirkcudbright & Gatehouse and Dalbeattie & Castle Douglas. The attractions near Craig of Balmaghie Farm are summarised below.

Laurieston village : 2 miles from the Farm. The Laurie Arms Inn serves lunches and evening meals.

Mossdale village : 4 miles from the Farm. Has a small shop with the nearest Post Office.

Castle Douglas : 8 miles from the Farm. A market town with many shops (including a large supermarket) a swimming pool and an excellent park beside Carlingwark Loch. Internet access at the local library and the IT Centre in the Community Centre. Tourist Information Centre.

Kirkcudbright : 11 miles from the Farm. A picturesque harbour town with a castle, three museums, craft shops, swimming pool and parks. Tourist Information Centre.

Dalbeattie : 14 miles from the Farm. A small town with a museum covering the social and industrial history of this area. For more information see Dalbeattie Town Website.

Loch Ken River Dee Marshes : 1.5 miles from the Farm to this Nature Reserve. Return walk from Car Park three miles. For more information on this and other reserves on the Nature Reserves website.

Other Attractions :

The Raiders' Road is within 5 miles of the Farm. It is a ten-mile forest drive that leads to the Queen's Way with its Deer Museum, Red Deer Reserve and Wild Goat Park.

The National Trust for Scotland has its Hornel Museum in Kirkcudbright, but also offers Threave Gardens just outside Castle Douglas.

Galloway offers many different forms of entertainment, with birdwatching beside lochs, at the coast and in the hills, walking in the forests and on the moors, fishing, golf, cycling, open farms, and sandy beaches (12 miles, at Sandgreen).
