Bankfield Farm :

Welcome to Bankfield Farm, a family-run beef unit on the edge of Glenluce by the A75, 10 miles east of Stranraer ferry port. An ideal base for touring, close to all amenities and to both the Mull of Galloway and the Galloway Hills.

Accommodation :

The accommodation consists of a Family Bedroom, a Double Bedroom and a Twin-bedded Bedroom. Colour TV, and Tea/Coffee making facilities are provided in all rooms, which are centrally heated. Two of the rooms have en-suite bathrooms with shower, the twin-bedded room has an adjacent private bathroom. This is non-smoking accommodation.

Glenluce has four good public houses and a restaurant where good food can be obtained. All are within easy walking distance of Bankfield Farm.

Local Attractions :

Bankfield Farm is conveniently sited for those wishing to visit The Mull of Galloway, South Ayrshire, The Machars and Galloway Forest Park. Other parts of Dumfries and Galloway are within easy reach as the farm is near the A75 route from Carlisle to Stranraer. The attractions near Bankfield are summarised below.

Glenluce has several fine attractions of its own. The St. Medan's Golf Course, Glenluce Abbey (Abbey Lucis), Glenluce Motor Museum and Glenwhan Gardens, are just a few of the best. There are three good local walks, - Councillor Robert Higgins has produced leaflets on the 'Ladyburn Glen Walk' (2 miles/1½ hour), 'The Clipper tae the Craw' (6 miles/2 hours) and 'The Abbey Walk' (5 miles/1½ hours). These walks give good insight into the local history and wildlife. Bowling, pony trekking and fishing are also available locally.

The ferry ports of Stranraer and Cairnryan are within ten miles, and the quaint seaside town of Portpatrick is only twenty miles away. The Machars is rich in history; stone circles and old crosses remain from prehistory, but the first Christian monastery in Scotland was at Whithorn, where the dig and visitor centre are famous attractions. Newton Stewart is the western gateway to the Galloway Forest Park, whose woods, lochs and moorland are home to millions of animals and birds. The Queen's Way from Newton Stewart to New Galloway has waterfalls, goats, deer (including a wildlife Deer Museum), extensive forests, lochs, a dam and forest drives.

Dumfries and Galloway holds many excellent nature reserves; 20 miles away is the RSPB Reserve at Wood of Cree , where there are many species of songbirds, but there is also the huge local authority coastal reserve at Wigtown and the RSPB reserve of the Mull of Galloway. We are within 27 miles of the outstanding beauty of Glen Trool, the site of a victory won by King Robert the Bruce in his quest to keep Scotland an independent Kingdom.

For the dedicated sportsman, there are a wide range of choices. Dumfries and Galloway has thirty Golf Courses, whilst arrangements can be made in Newton Stewart for all types of Deerstalking, Wildfowling and Fishing.

How To Find Us :

We are about 15 miles from Newton Stewart and 10 miles from Stranraer. From the A75 between Newton Stewart and Stranraer, take the turning into Glenluce village. Bankfield is on the left, a short distance from the junction. There is private parking near to the house.
