and South West Scotland [Return to Dalbeattie Town Index] |
Where's Scotland ?Scotland is the northern half of the United Kingdom within the British Isles. Its associations with William Wallace, Robert the Bruce, Mary Queen of Scots, Bonnie Prince Charlie and Queen Victoria are known throughout the world. So, too, are the foods such as shortbread, porage, haggis, neeps and tatties, - and always Scotch Malt Whisky. Scotland's mainland is in three main sections, - the rugged hills of the Highlands, the Midland Valley (where Glasgow and Edinburgh are) and the Southern Uplands. We live in the Southern Uplands, which are the Scottish Borders to the east, and here in the south west are the hills of Ayrshire and Galloway. Some of the hills are moorlands of grass and heather, others are clad in massive forests, where spruce and pine are a home for hundreds of thousands of wild animals and birds. The valleys are green and quite fertile. South West ScotlandAyrshire and Dumfries and Galloway are often referred to as South West Scotland. This section contains access to maps and plans of the area that will help you plan your holiday with us. Dumfries and Galloway, - where Dalbeattie is, - is unspoilt, beautiful and rewarding to visit. |
