For your enjoyment and assistance in planning your holiday, Dalbeattie Internet have incorporated this nine-part listing of all the attractions found in the Dumfries and Galloway and South Ayrshire areas of South West Scotland. This will give you a wide range of places to visit, whether as a visitor or as a resident.

The animals and plants in South West Scotland provide a free source of entertainment that changes with the seasons and never grows stale. Red, roe and fallow deer abound in the tree and heather clad hills in the Galloway highlands. Hill climbers and walkers may be lucky enough to see buzzards, peregrines and other raptors, together with a rich variety of wildlife and flora. However, a less active visitor can drive to locations where animals and birds are within easy view.
The region offers some of the best of Scotland's beautiful scenery - miles of unspoilt and varied coastline with sandy beaches and rock pools, rich arable or grazing land and grass or heather moorland to explore and enjoy.
Our mild climate allows many sub-tropical plants to thrive in the gardens at Logan, Castle Kennedy and Threave. On the south Ayrshire coast, Culzean Castle and Country Park has much to offer, - from the famous Adam ceilings in the Castle itself to the beautiful gardens and woodlands of the Park. Less famous local gardens are open to the public in the 'Gardens of Scotland' scheme.
The area is also a treasure trove of historical heritage. Neolithic standing stoners on bleak hillsides, rugged castles and towers dotted along the coastline and high in the hills, grand stately homes and estates... they're all here to be discovered, explored and enjoyed. Whithorn, where St. Ninian established the first Christian church in Scotland, offers a fascinating insight to life as it was here after the collapse of the Roman Empire.
Outdoor pursuits are many and varied, to suit every taste and age. Fish our streams and hill lochs for trout and salmon or try your hand at some beach casting or sea angling. Play a few holes on over thirty great Golf Courses, from links to parkland, - we even have a few driving ranges to help you improve your swing or cure that slice ! Sailing, water-ski-ing, birdwatching (the Solway Coast is a famous wintering ground for thousands of geese, ducks and waders), ponytrekking... the list is endless and is limited only by your imagination.
